Hannaton "Chopper" is a very exciting semen sire that has attracted more interest than any other ram ever bred at Hannaton. We believe he is the most complete poll with the best pedigree we have ever produced.  His sire was rated by Bill Walker as one of the best rams available at Sheepvention 2014 (see highlights page for Bills comments) and his mother is a special poll stud ewe sired by Willamenup Winston.  He is the complete package for early growth and maturity with his yearling eye muscle 11mm above the 2013 drop average and his yearling body weight of 94kg (32% above the 2013 drop average).  With an excellent long stapled wool on a productive loose skin we belive this ram is the ideal combination for the future of production at Hannaton.  DNA tested as a Double Copy Poll and with his excellent pedigree we expect great breeding results.

Hannaton 12-0046 "Jet Star"

Sire - Hannaton 11-0002

Grandsire - Ridgeway 1137 (sold for $25,000 at Classing Classic 2010)

Micron – 16.6 SD - 2.8 CV – 16.9 SF -15.6 Curv – 41 CF – 100

We believe "Jet Star" has the best wool of any poll sire ever bred at Hannaton.  This stylish, deep crimping wool is white and nourished from the top of his head to the tip of his tail.  A super soft and productive skin is pushing out both fibre density and  staple length.  Identified early as a lamb, "Jet Star" has been retained in the stud and we intend to use him extensively in our polls.  He stands with a deep and very square frame with a proud outlook that makes you notice him every time he walks in the yards.  For such a heavy cutting ram he also has a bare breech and very low breech wrinkle making him a real sire for the future.

Jet Star was naturally mated to 100 top poll ewes in the stud and his lambs are showing the same excellent skins and survivability as their sire.  We have just marked 132 lambs from the 100 ewes mated and the lambs look to be the top of our 2014 drop. Look out for the first sons of Jet Star in our 2015 ram sale!!

After his great success in our breeding program Jet Star was entered in 2016 merino lifetime productivity trial at Harrow - This trial is using 25 rams, with industry link sires and the best genetics from SA, Vic, NSW, Tas and WA.  Jet Star's progeny have the highest percentage of tops at +26% and the second lowest percentage of culls at -6% at the yearling visual classing.

A standout ram since marking he has already been used as a lamb in the Hannaton poll stud with excellent lambs on the ground. He has a super soft bold crimping wool with an amazing set of figures and a productive skin.  He stands without fault on a deep square frame with an impressive outlook. Sired by Ridgeway 1137 who was sold to a syndicate at Classing Classic ram sale in 2010 for $25,000 and from a top Hannaton poll AI ewe. Pfizer HornPOLL DNA testing also shows him to be a double copy poll. We expect this ram to breed consistant top progeny from the results of his first mating at Hannaton. Our confidence in his breeding potential has also been shown with his fantastic early results of his progeny in the Balmoral Sire Evalutation Trial. The first testing of his progeny already has him as a trait leader for the dual purpose index.

One of the most impressive and exciting rams ever bred at Hannaton. Hannaton “Specialist” was identified as a lamb for his superior growth rate, plain body and excellent structure. His free growing wool and long staple also has him in the top 5% for wool cut for the 2010 progeny (wool cut from birth to 9 months 8.8kg). His excellent bone structure, muscle and depth in his carcass make him a true all purpose sheep.
